Dallas Cup Executive Director Gordon Jago continues Super Group announcements with the addition of Cruzeiro EC of Belo Horizonte, Brasil. “We are most pleased to welcome Alexandre Barroso, Coordenador Tecnico de Futebol de Base of Cruzeiro, back to Dallas” states Mr. Jago. “I’m sure the club will bring their usual exciting style of football to the Dallas Cup”.
Cruzeiro was last in Dallas in 2000 and at the time Alexandre was the coach of the team. “We are very excited to return to the Dallas Cup. We know how important the Dallas Cup is for the formation, education and fitness improvement of our youth players. I remember like it was just yesterday the tremendous match we played against SC Corinthians (Brasil) in the elimination stage of the 2000 tournament.”
Cruzeiro EC was founded in January of 1921 as Societa Esportiva Palestra Italia and in 1942 the club took the name it has now proudly represented since then. Cruzeiro is one of the top clubs in Brasil with the biggest fan base in the state of Minas Gerais. The youth division of the club has given the futebol world players such as Ronaldo, Belletti, Maicon, Gomes, Luisao, Ricardinho, and Maxwell. Maicon, now with Inter Milan (Italy), Luisao, now with Benfica (Portugal) and Maxwell who is now with FC Barcelona (Spain) all played in the Dallas Cup in 2000. Maicon and Luisao are also starters for the Brazilian National Team.
