PLANO, Texas (January 11, 2006) - - Dr Pepper, the leading brand of Plano-based Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages (CSAB), announced today their seven-year $1.2 million, title sponsorship of the world-famous Dallas Cup soccer tournament. Now in its 27th year, the soccer tournament plays host to elite international, national and local youth soccer teams. The official Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXVII takes place April 9-16, 2006, at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas.
Gil Cassagne, president and CEO of CSAB, and Gerald Caldwell, president of the Dallas Cup board of directors, revealed the Cups new look during a press conference at Pizza Hut Park this morning.
Our sponsorship allows us to strengthen our ties to the Dallas community while sharing our brand and our city with the world, said Cassagne. The Dallas Cup has helped bring soccer to phenomenal heights as a youth sport in North Texas. Were proud to be a part of such a great organization.
The week-long tournament consists of a series of round robin games from as many as 192 teams. The much anticipated Super Group, which includes the worlds top soccer clubs youth teams, representing clubs from England, Japan, Costa Rica, Germany, Netherlands, China, Spain, Mexico and the United States.
This year is especially exciting because its the first time that weve had a corporate title sponsor in over ten years, and its also the first time weve held the tournament at a venue as magnificent as Pizza Hut Park, said Gordon Jago, executive director of the Dallas Cup.
