Dallas Cup Alumni Hitting the Goal!
Looking at the current FIFA competitions
Dallas Cup alumni players Robinho (Santos FC-1999), Giuseppe Rossi (Manchester United-2006), Frazier Campbell (Manchester United-2006) and Landon Donavan (US U17 National Team-1999) have all scored goals this past week in the Confederations Cup and the European U21 Championships.
Giuseppe Rossi, born in New Jersey, came of the bench for Italy to score two goals in their 3-1 victory over the USA in the Confederations Cup currently underway in South Africa. Three days later Robinho scored in Brazil’s 3-0 defeat of the USA National team making the USA’s chance of advancing to the semi-finals a difficult if not impossible task. Only a high scoring game against Egypt and some help from Brazil in their match against Italy will see the USA advance. Landon Donavan, team captain scored the USA’s lone goal in the competition in the first two games on a penalty kick against Italy. Frazier Campbell insured England’s U21 team a group semi final place at the European U21 championship being played in Sweden scoring in their 2-0 victory over Spain.
Following in the footsteps of senior Dallas Cup alumni players such as David Beckham, Raul, Michael Owen and Brian McBride these young players are continuing the international soccer success of so many players who took their first steps on this path at the Dallas Cup.
If anyone knows of other recent instances of Dallas Cup alumni players having great success playing for their National teams please let us know the details and we will place it on the Dallas Cup website.
