2012 Dr Pepper Dallas Cup Gordon Jago Super Group

Executive Director Gordon Jago and Tournament Manager Randy Jones announced that the following teams have confirmed their participation in the Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXXIII to be played in Dallas 1 -8 April 2012.  “Without a doubt The Strongest Super Group since I joined Dallas Cup in 2002”, stated Gordon Jago.

Everton FC (England), Eintracht Frankfurt (Germany), Club Bolivar (Bolivia), Manchester United (England), Paris Saint-Germain (France), Tigres (Mexico), Seleccion Nacional de Mexico Sub 20 (Mexico) will be joined by Brazilian clubs Coritiba FC, EC Bahia and Japanese club, Kashiwa Reysol along with U.S. clubs FC Dallas and Dallas Texans as the U.S. representatives for the 2012 Gordon Jago Super Group at Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXXIII.

“To have such an excellent group of teams will provide the Dallas soccer fans the opportunity to see the very best of International youth soccer and the contrasting styles of South America, Europe, Asia, and North American teams in the Super Group during the week long tournament”, stated Randy Jones. 

The Super Group tournament will play under a new format this year. The 16 team group of recent years will be reduced to 12 teams. This decision by the Dallas Cup Competition Committee is in order to create a “wild card” opportunity. The winners from the three four-team brackets will advance to the semifinals plus a wild card team with the next best record of all three brackets.

Dallas Cup contains seven age groups from U13 to U19 level and entertains on average more than 160,000 spectators during the week. Since its inception in 1980, Dallas Cup has played host to teams and referees from over 45 states, 100 countries and 6 continents. Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXXIII kicks off at FC Dallas Stadium in Frisco, April 1^st, 2012 with the championship games taking place April 7 and 8.

Tournament Manager Randy Jones received the disappointing news from Adrian Cristiani the club’s “Gerencia de Futbol”. “There were a number of internal and external scheduling issues that needed to be resolved and when the invitation from the Dallas Cup and our mutual partner Nike was extended last November we felt very sure they could be resolved and the invitation was accepted. Unfortunately all issues could not be resolved as we thought and regretfully we were forced to withdraw our acceptance. We look forward to possibly participating in the Dr Pepper Dallas Cup Super Group in the near future.” stated Sr. Cristiani.

 Mexican Under-20 National Team joins the 2012 Gordon Jago Super Group

Dallas Cup Executive Director Gordon Jago is pleased to announce the addition of Selección de Fútbol Sub-20 de Mexico to the Gordon Jago Super Group at Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXXIII. The Dr Pepper Dallas Cup will mark the first steps for the young El-Tri’s in preparation for the 2013 Under-20 FIFA World Cup. The new golden generation of Mexican talent including the Under-17 2011 World Cup Champions eagerly moves on to FIFA Under-20 competitions.

“It is good to have our good friend Juan Carlos Ortega and his fine group of young men back with us after a year’s absence.  When last here, their participation both on and off the field of play was a credit not only to the Dallas Cup but to all of Mexico as well” said Tournament Manager Randy Jones.

“To have the top young talent of Mexican soccer at this year’s Dr Pepper Dallas Cup will be a great attraction to our many Hispanic soccer fans as the team plays against the caliber of top professional clubs that will be taking part in this year’s Tournament. An excellent preparation for their FIFA World Cup 2013 qualifying tournament,” stated Gordon Jago.

Current Mexican stars Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, Gio Dos Santos and Carlos Vela all played in past Dallas Cups and Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXXIII will be another chance to spot the next star player from our friends south of the border.

Mexico’s Under-20 National Team('93/'94 players for the 2013 Under-20 World Cup in Turkey) joins Manchester United, Eintracht Frankfurt, UANL Tigres, Paris Saint-Germain, Boca Juniors, and Everton FC as teams already announced as part of the Gordon Jago Super Group.  The remainder of the Super Group teams will be announced later this week.

Manchester United, 19-time Barclays Premier League Champions, return to the Gordon Jago Super Group for the first time since 2006. Their previous appearance brought players like Giuseppe Rossi, Darron Gibson and Jonny Evans to Dallas Cup.  “We are very much looking forward to travelling to Dallas to participate in the Dallas Cup.  We will be bringing a team that have been together for a while, a majority of which were involved in winning the Youth Cup last season. Paris Saint-Germain, two-time Ligue 1 and UEFA Champions League winners, join the Gordon Jago Super Group for the first time in tournament history. The only major club in Paris, the PSG academy has produced players like Nicolas Anelka and is the current U19 and U17 French academy league champions.  Paris Saint-Germain Sébastien Wasels: “We are delighted to participate to the XXXIII edition of the Dallas Cup. Boca Juniors: Boca Juniors, arguably the most famous club of South America, boast an impressive trophy case with 25 Argentine championships, 6 Copa Libertadores titles and won the 2011 Argentine Primera Division championship on December 4. 2011 Dr Pepper Dallas Cup Gordon Jago Super Group Co-Champions

“If we play them together in the first game in Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXXIII, 1 – 8 April 2012 we can claim a Guinness Book of Records for the longest soccer game ever starting on April 24, 2011 and finishing on April 1, 2012 “approximately 8208 hours” joked Executive Director, Gordon Jago in announcing both clubs joining Everton FC for next year’s tournament”.

The 2011 Super Group final between the two clubs had to be abandoned due to lightning in the 65th minute with score tied at 1-1. It was the first time in the Dallas Cup’s 32 year history that a game had to be abandoned stated Tournament Manager, Randy Jones. With the scored tied both teams were awarded Super Group Co-Champions for 2011.

We are delighted that we can welcome back both teams for 2012 and it certainly will be interesting if they do meet next year’s competition continued Gordon Jago.

1999 Under-14 Everton Academy

Dr Pepper Dallas Cup Executive Director Gordon Jago is pleased to announce the 2011 English Premier Academy League champions Everton FC as the first 2012 Gordon Jago Super Group team. Everton FC will be making their first trip to the Dallas Cup since 1999. The Premier Academy league is an under-18 league comprised of academies from the top-level English clubs. The long standing relationship of Dallas Cup with the English Premiership League gives the U.S. fans an opportunity to see the future stars of soccer.

Everton Academy Manager, Alan Irvine: “We are delighted to once again be crossing the Atlantic to take part in the Dallas Cup. This competition is one of the most prestigious of its kind in the world and the quality of teams taking part in 2012 proves that.  Here at Everton we get invited to countless international events during the course of the season but we only accept the ones that we feel will be very well organised and will give our young players a platform to perform against a very good standard of opposition. The Dallas Cup certainly ticks both boxes and we are all looking forward to it.” 

Tournament Manager Randy Jones: “We are really pleased to have Everton back at the Dallas Cup in the Super Group for 2012.  When last here in 1999 in our Under 14 group there was a young lad by the name of Wayne Rooney in the squad.  Who knows what we will see in the Super Group squad next April but I know one thing for sure, there will be some outstanding “Everton Football” played on the fields at the Dallas Cup.”

After nine years as Executive Director of Dallas Cup Inc., Gordon Jago former head coach of the Dallas Sidekicks will end his role as of June 1^st, 2012

“It has been a truly marvelous and rewarding nine years, but now is the right time for a new person to take over the leadership of the Dallas Cup,” said Gordon. “By making the decision now, it gives the Board of Directors the opportunity to select the incoming Executive Director and for the incoming Director to work with the staff and myself through Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXXIII next April.”

In Gordon’s time as Executive Director, the Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup has grown exponentially in prestige and competitiveness. Some of the biggest names in soccer including Manchester United, Barcelona, Arsenal, Real Madrid, and Liverpool as well as the U-20 programs of both the United States and Mexico have come to north Texas in the past nine years while the Dallas Is Diversity and homestay programs have changed thousands of lives. 

“Gordon Jago’s contributions to Dallas Cup are immeasurable. Under his leadership, the tournament has become the perfect blend of unparalleled competitiveness and sportsmanship in the world of international youth soccer,” said Dallas Cup Board President Sam Wash. “We are forever indebted to Gordon for his tireless devotion to youth soccer, and we are excited that he has agreed to stay on in an advisory role to facilitate a smooth transition.”

Dallas Cup Inc. announce New Executive Director

The Dallas Cup Board of Directors today announces Mr. James Rice will be joining the Dallas Cup staff on December 1 in preparation to assuming the role of Executive Director on June 1, 2012.  Dallas Cup President Sam Wash states “By joining the staff on December 1, it will give James the opportunity to see firsthand aspects of Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXXIII next April in preparation of becoming our new Executive Director. “

James Quote: “I cannot express how excited I am to be welcomed on board by such an excellent organization. My core focus will be to take the continued success of the Dallas Cup Soccer Tournament and grow our Diversity Programs. I believe every child should have the opportunity to improve their quality of life through education and soccer. James Rice joined the Dallas Cup Inc. Board of Directors in 2006 and has acted as the organization’s secretary since 2010. James brings a wealth of business experience associated with Pacific Life Open – Tennis, NBA All-Stars, Palm Springs Vintage Gran Prix and International Film Festival and his enthusiasm for the game of soccer will bring a new chapter to the Dallas Cup stated President Sam Wash.

Born in Poole Dorset England, James is a keen Arsenal F.C. fan and his son Taylor is a professional player with Chorrillo F.C. in Panama. Taylor has played in three Dallas Cup
