The first of four Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXXVI Champions were crowned today at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, TX. All eight teams vying for the championship today performed well, giving the fans four entertaining games.
The under 13 age bracket was the early morning contest. San Diego Surf SC Academy Select beat their Southern California rivals, FC Golden State PDA, by a score of 3-1 to take home the club's first "Boot and Ball" Championship trophy.
FC Golden State PDA scored first, in the 27 minute, when Juan Cruz’s shot deflected off a defender and into the far side of the net. The lead did not hold up for long as Surf forward Alfredo Moran slotted his 31st minute shot past the keeper to tie the game.
Moran scored again in the 50th minute to put Surf up 2-1. Zachary McGordon added his team’s third goal when he blasted home a long-range shot with just nine minutes remaining. Despite several chances late, FC Golden State was unable to score again.
Penalty kicks were required to decide the Under 14 age group after AC Brea and FC Dallas Pre Academy tied 1-1. AC Brea Captain, Tye Herandez, scored in the 13th minute, before FC Dallas’ Luis Pacheco redirected a cross past the goalkeeper in the 20th minute to tie the game. Neither team was able to add to their tally in regulation so AC Brea played in their third consecutive overtime game. It remained scoreless in overtime. Aaron Tebay, hero in AC Brea’s quarterfinal penalty kicks victory and scorer of the game winning goal in the semifinal overtime win, came up big again in goal. He stopped two FC Dallas attempts to help AC Brea win 3-1 in the shootout.
Eintracht Frankfurt defeated FC Golden State USSDA U14 Academy, 2-1, to claim the U15 Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXXVI title. Enrique Pena Zauner started the German side off right with his 14 minute free kick strike that was perfectly placed. William Justin Kabuya added to the lead five minutes into the second half to give his team some needed breathing room as FC Golden State stormed back in the dying minutes of the game. Kevin Aguilar-Cervantes scored with one minute remaining to put Eintracht on their heels. Golden State had a shot at the tying the game, but the last minute desperation header went wide of empty goal, for the final play of the game. This is Eintracht Frankfurt’s second Under 15 Dr Pepper Dallas Cup Title, and first since 2010.
It was two Washington club rivals, Seattle United Copa and Crossfire Premier Pre-Academy, who had their eyes on the U16 adidas Young Champions title in Saturday’s final Championship matchup. Seattle United’s captain, Jackson Ragen, struck first in the 12th minute. Ragen was able to squeak the ball past Crossfire’s goalkeeper when he rose above his defender to nod in a hopeful cross. Paul Rothrock padded the score in the 38th, to give United all the goals they would need, in a 2-0 victory. Seattle United Copa is the first team from the State of Washington to win a Dallas Cup age group.
