Led by Gallardo’s five goals, U.S. U15 National Team earns third place in tournament.
U.S. U15 National Team player, Joe Gallardo (DC ’11), recently earned the Golden Boot for the Copa Mexico de Naciones Tournament in Mexico City. Gallardo, who in 2011 played for the U13 Dr Pepper Dallas Cup Champions, Nomads Academy, scored five goals in the tournament helping the U.S. to a third place showing over soccer powerhouse teams such as Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and Chile.
The tournament was comprised of 12 top U-15 National Teams and is seen as a preparation tournament for the 2015 U-17 World Cup, which will be played in Chile. The tournament was eventually won by Argentina who earned a 1-0 victory over runner-up Uruguay.
Gallardo is currently signed with Monterrey Rayados from Mexico, who first took notice of him when he helped guide his Nomads Academy to the Dr Pepper Dallas Cup U13 Championship in 2011. The 2011 Champion Nomads were well represented on the U15 U.S. National Team as both Eric Calvillo (DC ’11) and Alexis Velela (DC ’11) joined Gallardo for the tournament.
