The 7UP Sueño Alianza Finals recently took place at the StubHub center in Carson, California in which the top 18 players in both the U18 and U14 age group were selected by professional pro scouts from the U.S. and Mexico, including U-14 U.S. National Team Coach Hugo Perez and scouts from the majority of Mexican 1st Division clubs. Alianza has fielded teams in the past two Dr Pepper Dallas Cups.
It is quite an achievement to be selected as a Sueño Alianza Finalist. First, players must compete in regional tryouts that are held across the U.S. Top scouts from the region, plus 1st Division Mexican Club team scouts and a growing number of Major League Soccer clubs attend each of the nine regional tryouts and select the top 360 players. From there, only the top 50 players in both the U18 and U14 age groups are flown out to Carson, CA for the Finals to perform in front of the top talent evaluators in North America.
Since its inception in 2008, the program has been very successful in finding talented players that are often overlooked because they are not entered in traditional youth development systems. In its short six year existence, the Alianza program as already identified numerous players that are now playing professionally on some of the best club teams throughout North America and even a few on their National Teams.
The importance of the Alianza de Futbol program has piqued the interest of some of the biggest names in the COCACAF region. For this year’s finals both U.S. National Team Head Coach, Jurgen Klinsmann, and Former President of USSF, Alan Rothenberg, were among the guest speakers.
Congratulations to the 2013 class. We look forward to Alianza teams competing in future Dr Pepper Dallas Cups.
