Kellyn Acosta ---- Omar Gonzalez ---- Drew Moor ---- Chris Klute
Shea Salinas ---- Dillon Powers ---- Lee Nguyen ---- Brek Shea
Kenny Cooper ---- Clint Dempsey
DC 365 Blog did a fun exercise in seeing if we can select an All-Texan U.S. Men's National Team Starting XI. Texas has been a consistent hotbed of soccer talent and all of these players have came through the Dallas Cup. Later this week, U.S. Men's National Team coach Jurgen Kinsmann will announce the annual January Camp Roster. There were some tough positions difficult to nominate like active professional goalkeepers from Texas and some tough exclusions in the midfield based on youth and injuries. Players like Conor Doyle and Jared Jeffrey with DC United, the currently injured Stuart Holden; Stephen McCarthy and Austin Berry being squeezed out in a crowded CB position. Who did we miss? Can any other state's active All-Star team take us on?
Edit (1-02-2013) Jose "Gringo" Torres and Greg Garza - Two more candidates we initially left off in our squad. Jose, when in top form, would supplant any of the attacking midfield options. Greg continue to making strides in competing for a starting XI spot for Mexican Club Club Tijuana.
Lalo Fernandez GK - The 20 year old El Paso native is Real Salt Lake Homegrown player. Lalo has had youth national team call-ups from both Mexico and the U.S. In a surprising lean field of Texas candidates, Lalo represents the goalkeeper with the biggest upside from Texas
Clint Dempsey FW - The U.S. Men's Team Captain. Clint is the obvious anchor and leader of our All-Texan U.S. Men's Soccer Team
Kellyn Acosta RB - The youngest member of our All-Texan team, Kellyn is a worthy member despite his age. When you review Kellyn's young career, he has been consistently the youngest member of both club and country teams. It's a long shot but U.S. National Team coach Jurgen Klinsmann should give Kellyn a January camp call-up. Anytime Kellyn has been given a shot at a roster spot, he has met the challenge and fully embraced the opportunity.
Omar Gonzalez CB - 2006 Dallas Cup Super Group Champion, 2008 College Cup Champion. 2009 MLS Rookie of the Year, 2011 MLS Cup Champion, U.S. Men's National Team starting CB
Drew Moor CB - The Dallas native is an eight-year veteran of the MLS. The former FC Dallas and current Colorado Rapid is a leader on and off the field. In 2010, Drew anchored the Colorado defense to the MLS Cup Championship.
Shea Salinas RM - The Dallas native has found a home with MLS Club San Jose Earthquakes. The pacey winger has his best form of his career to date in 2013. A MLS career high of 8 assists, Shea's 1 v 1 skills is a perfect complimenting the San Jose attack.
Chris Klute LB - A breakout season for Chris in 2013. After a stellar season with the NASL Atlanta Silverbacks, Chris caught the attention of MLS Club Colorado Rapids. The former Dallas Texan's play for this season has him listed in many MLS best starting XI for 2013. Rumored for a National Team Call-up in January.
Kenny Cooper FW - One of the best players produced from the Dallas area, Kenny is a veteran goal-scorer. A tough year for Kenny in his second stint with FC Dallas last season, Kenny will get a fresh start with Seattle Sounders next season.
Lee Nguyen CM - The fourth former Dallas Texan on this team, Lee's winding international career has found him a home with the New England Revolution. Lee pulls the string of a young and dynamic corp of offensive talents for the resurgent Revolution.
Brek Shea LM - The mercurial winger is a favorite of Jurgen Klinsmann. Injuries and the transition to the English game has left Brek frustrated with his playing time. But there is no doubt when in the mood, Brek possess talents that will earn him more playing time and considerations back with the National Team.
Dillon Powers DM - The 2013 MLS Rookie of the Year. A key member of the resurgent Colorado Rapids, Dillon was part of a dynamic partnership of Rookie of the Year runner-up Deshorn Brown. The former U20 Youth National Team Captain will be a key member of the Colorado squad for years to come.
