Olympiakos and Costa Rican striker Joel Campbell has had an impressive two weeks. First, he scored a left footed stunner from the top of the box in Olympiakos' UEAF Champions League game against a struggling Manchester United. Campbell cheekily nutmegged Michael Carrick (DC ’00) and then curled his shot around Rio Ferdinand to score the second goal of the match, which Olympiakos won handily, 2-0. The second leg will be played at Old Trafford in Manchester on March 19th. Campbell's strike in that game earned him CONCACAF Player of the Week honors.
Campbell's hot streak continued as he helped propel Costa Rica over Paraguay in a World Cup tune up match. The goal was similar to the one he scored the previous week, but required a bit more finess to chip the keep from 22 yards out. Will this goal be enough to warrant back to back CONCACAF Player of the Week honors?
Campbell is no stranger to awards as he helped LD Alajuelense win the 2003 U12 Dallas Cup championship against Dillon Powers' (DC '03) Dallas based Andromeda team.
